Post-Partum Care

Immediate Care

At Alabama Birth Center, our care doesn’t stop after birth—it extends to your whole family. From the very first moments, we support uninterrupted bonding with your baby, focusing on comfort and connection. At minimum, your baby will remain skin-to-skin with you for the first hour after birth, ensuring those precious first moments are all about you and your little one.

Future Care For Your Baby

Postpartum care is just as crucial as prenatal care. As you visited Alabama Birth Center for prenatal check-ups, you'll continue with visits for postpartum care.

  • 24-48 Hours: One to two days after birth, your baby will undergo a thorough examination, including the first newborn screening blood test, called PKU. This can be done in the comfort of your own home.

  • 2 weeks: an ABC Midwife and/or RN will visit you at home for a postpartum visit.

  • 6 weeks: a postpartum visit at ABC with our staff.

Continue to receive support and encouragement for bonding and breastfeeding during the first two months after delivery.

  • Lactation Support

  • Postpartum Support

  • Exercise and Health (including birth control options)

Ongoing Support

Even after you're on your own, our team remains available to support you through future pregnancies and various phases of your life.
