Connected Care

Connected Care at Alabama Birth Center is a midwifery model of Collaborative Care designed for those who desire the support and philosophy of midwifery care while planning a birth at Crestwood Hospital. This model allows patients to receive prenatal care at Alabama Birth Center with our midwives while partnering with a consulting physician or midwife of their choice at Crestwood. Patients will give birth in one of Crestwood Hospital’s two new Labor and Delivery suites*, thoughtfully designed to mimic the feel of home—just like at the birth center!

First, you book your first prenatal appointment/intake for Connected Care. You will meet our midwife and RN in a home-like atmosphere in our prenatal room at Alabama Birth Center.

• Collaboration with Medical Providers: We have a list of Midwives and OBYNs who will collaboratively work with Alabama Birth Center to make your experience seamless and headache-free.

• Personalized & Holistic Approach: While we focus on midwifery-led, low-intervention care, we also ensure access to medical resources if your pregnancy requires additional support.

• Planned Birth at Crestwood: Patients will give birth in a comfortable, home-like hospital setting with their chosen consulting physician or midwife, ensuring continuity of care. Alabama Birth Center will also provide a doula to be with you, starting at active labor.

• Streamlined Transitions: If a higher level of care is needed at any point, we work closely with collaborating providers to ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.

• Insurance & Cost Considerations: Some services, such as lab work and ultrasounds, may be covered by insurance, and we guide patients in navigating their options for financial and medical continuity.

Connected Care is all about ensuring that you feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout your pregnancy journey—providing the best of both midwifery and medical care when needed.

At Alabama Birth Center (ABC), we believe that every family deserves high-quality, compassionate prenatal care—regardless of financial or insurance status. Our Connected Care program is designed to make midwifery-led prenatal care affordable and accessible for all.

How It Works:

🌿 Medicaid-Friendly Care – If you have Medicaid, most of your antenatal care costs are covered. A small fee is supplemented by grants from our community partners. We work hard to ensure affordability for every family.

💰 Private Insurance Patients – Antenatal care at Alabama Birth Center is out of pocket ($1,500). However, milestone visits, ultrasounds, and lab work can be billed to your consulting physician’s office through your insurance. We’re happy to connect you with our preferred providers to make the process seamless.

Cost & Payment Options:

🔹 Total Cost for Antenatal Care: $1,500 This covers all prenatal visits, education, classes, and doula support at ABC. It does not include hospital delivery, ultrasounds, labs, or other external services.

🔹 Payment Options:

• Commercial Insurance Patients – Full cost is $1,500, with an initial $50 fee at the first prenatal visit (applied to the total). Payments are due in full or via a payment plan completed by 30 weeks.

• Medicaid Patients – A $50 initial fee is required at the first visit, with the remainder covered through grants (if available) or an arranged payment plan.

Yes! You will have an ABC doula at your hospital birth to support you when you are in active labor. This service is included in your cost of care, ensuring you have continuous support throughout your birth experience.

Your medical charts will be transferred to the consulting physicians office of your choosing at 36 weeks. You will deliver in the hospital with your consulting office.
